Love Link

Link Between Miles 📏

Discovery & Research

PROJECT BRIEF

It's hard being in a long-distance relationship.

You miss the small things, knowing when they're home or simply being near despite being many miles away.

That's why I'd like to design a battery-powered lamp that keeps long-distance couples connected. A touch on one lamp illuminates the other, transmitting presence and mood in the moment.

BECAUSE LOVE NEEDS MORE THAN JUST A TEXT

MEET
EMMA & NOAH

Noah and Emma are making long-distance work like pros.

late-night calls, shared playlists, all of it.

But even for couples like them, staying connected can

get tricky. Sometimes the chats run dry, and it’s hard to

keep things feeling fresh.

Emotional Asumptions

"Maintaining frequent

communication and finding new

topics and activities is a

difficult task"

"If you don't communicate at all,

and assume your partner is fine,

you'll lose connection."

"Sometimes we assume

the other person knows

we care, but sometimes,

the partners dont see it."

PRODUCT TEARDOWN

By examining a similar product, I gained valuable

insights into its design, which allowed me to identify

key opportunities for innovation

and improvement.

  1. Standoffs

This lamp uses a 4 standoff design for more stable pressing.

  2. Snap Fits

Most lamps use a screwless design.

  3. PCB With LED

A realistic design would include aPCB to enable WIFI capability.

  4. Material Thickness

    Material thickness was .005 in.

MODEL ITERATION

MODEL 1 ❌

Model 1 was a great learning experience throughout

the process of deciding on ideation.

This model effectively conveyed a different idea, but it overall lacked the utility needed for a fully functioning lamp. It works well as a sole mood lamp, but not for its other intended functions.

MODEL 2 ✅

Model 1 was a significant step in the design process

It conveyed shape and intended form most effectively, but

proved to be very fragile, especially at the connection between the body and the glass. It conveyed shape and intended form the most, but proved to be very fragile. Especially on the connection from the body to the glass.
