The Brief

A 200 year anniversary represents more than a milestone. It reflects a legacy of care, craftsmanship, and time. For Woodford Reserve, this moment is about respecting its history while introducing something new.

The goal is to design a commemorative bottle set that feels strong, timeless, and deliberate. One that conveys the warmth, depth, and confidence of a bourbon shaped by patience and intention.

Design Goals

Cordless Operation

Battery operation, while keeping its premium form factor.

Consumer Power

Industrial power, in a form factor that doesn't sacrifice.

Simple Intelligence

With smart features that don't get in the way of what really matters.

Next Level Quality

Quality and thoughtfulness that goes above and beyond expectations.

Meet my Dad.

I look up to my dad in many ways. He’s a devoted family man who would do just about anything for his family. Another thing I admire about my dad is his many hobbies. He fishes, grills, beekeeps, backpacks, etc. Always staying active. But one hobby that has always intrigued me specifically is his collection of bourbon.

His collection is impressive, but it’s missing the crown jewel.

What he needs is THE Woodford bottle.

And thats what I set out to create.

Collector Bourbon Bottles: Current Drawbacks.

Conservative Design

Most collector bottles follow the trend of very traditional designs, especially at higher price points.

Overly Reliant on Labels

Most bourbon bottles, in general, lack unique bottle shapes, which is often overcompensated for in overly elaborate labels.

Low Recognizability

Unless you're an avid bourbon collector, you may not be able to recognize a brand or type of bourbon from far away. For example, behind a bar.

Traditional Aethetics

Collector bottles tend to get more conservative as the price increases, which opens the market to highly designed, high-end bottles.

Initial Sketches

Round One

This phase focused on exploring overall form and design language, which served as an analysis of what forms worked with the Woodford Reserve design philosophy.

Initial CAD Models

his phase defined final sizes for the bottle and explored different neck and glass interior options.

Initial Sketches

Round Two

This phase focused on finalizing the concept while briefly exploring neck sizes and legacy symbols, aiming to define the product’s final proportions.

Secondary CAD Models

This phase refined the concept into a high-fidelity form factor. It helped clarify proportions, shape, and overall design language.

Validation

With the final design complete, it was time for the final review with my Dad, the expert. He said the bottle had a Woodford vibe, an ergonomic neck, and a strong legacy feel with the star design. But it was missing key details like proof, age, and ABV. To level up the brand, he recommended adding some barrel imagery and an embossed logo.

3D Print: Begin printing final prototype.

Glue & Paint Parts: Spray paint the desired colored finish

Key Takeaways.

The KitchenAid+ project focused on balancing form and function while integrating an established brand to maintain credibility. The primary challenge was working within a brand known for continuity and limited visual change.

Rather than redesigning KitchenAid’s existing design language, the project explores how the brand could extend into a new era of technology. The design introduces new features and a distinct form that signal forward progress, while still maintaining a clear connection to the brand’s core identity.

Thank you.
